I have played for my current hockey club for the last 8 years. I have played summer hockey, weekend hockey, winter hockey and vets hockey, aka old ladies or masters hockey. A couple of seasons ago I played in one of those teams where everyone becomes friends and training night turns into a meal at the pub afterwards, of course a couple of vinos to go round. It was a lot of fun.
This has evolved with us all playing for different teams, I mean there are 9 or 10 to choose from. Different levels, different age groups, you get the idea. One of my teammates has moved to the country, she’s done a tree change. She got married and her husband got a job close to where I grew up actually. So now we catch up usually on a Wednesday evening during school holidays. Wednesday is hockey night anyway and during the holidays there is often a Wednesday with no hockey. This is when we meet at a pub, a different one each time.
For the catch up before Christmas involves a cheap present as a Kris Kringle gift. Someone sets a theme and we acquire a present incorporating the theme and budget. This year the theme is Charity. Gifts must support a charity somehow. Enter Frosty the Snowman, knitted from Mirasol wool. I think he turned out well. Kinda cute!
Mirasol wool supports the Mirasol school in Peru. Click here (www.mirasolperu.com) for more information.
Mission accomplished. I hope whoever takes Frosty home likes him.
